The Duchess of Sussex made a surprise visit to Luminary Bakery this week to celebrate the opening of their second location in London!
The bakery supports and empowers disadvantaged women who have experienced poverty, homelessness, violence, and trafficking, and was previously featured in the September issue of Vogue, of which Meghan was guest editor. In a video posted to the Sussexes’ official Instagram account, Meghan can be seen smiling giddily among women who are supported by the bakery’s work—posing behind a gorgeous tiered cake that the duchess herself helped decorate!
During an intimate discussion with a woman named Tanya, whose ex-partner was jailed for stabbing her multiple times, Meghan spoke gently about the slow process of healing.
“There’s a culture of instant gratification, of the instant fix,” she said. “But we aren’t mechanical objects that need to be fixed. You’re a wounded creature that needs to be healed, and that takes time. And that’s what I love about this place. It gives you the support to heal.”
Luminary Bakery was responsible for a mouthwatering birthday cake that was a surprise for Meghan when she turned 38 in August.
Decorated with candied orange peel, sprigs of rosemary and the words “Happy Birthday Meghan” in chocolate frosting, the flavor was carrot and the aesthetic was both homely and chic.
The Duchess of Sussex looked pretty chic herself during her latest outing to the bakery, for which she dressed down in jeans, a pinstripe shirt, and white sneakers by Stella McCartney.
She also wore the Three Diamond Amigos earrings by Adina Reyter, which retail for $600.
Meghan was the subject of another Instagram post on October 31 shared to the Sussexes’ account: a picture snapped of the couple surrounded by people in costume, which was taken when Prince Harry and Meghan visited a special effects workshop during their 2018 tour of New Zealand.
Accompanying the picture was a sweet message wishing a Happy Halloween “from our family (and our little pumpkin!) to yours!”
We can only hope that the duke and duchess may, in fact, have dressed Archie Harrison up as a pumpkin in the spirit of Halloween.
