Game of Thrones fans are still reeling over the events that took place during the penultimate episode of the series. There was so much death, destruction, revenge, and surprise twists that viewers were on edge the whole time. Most alarmingly, Daenerys Targaryen went full Mad Queen and burned the whole city down.
Show creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss intentionally showed the entire episode from the ground, following Arya Stark as she navigated the burning streets and dying citizens. Fans were nervous about the beloved character and emotions ran high for the entire episode. Somehow, she survived the destruction and left the ruined city on a white horse who appeared out of nowhere.
Or did she survive? Some fans have an interesting theory about the ending that could change everything.
Fans think they found proof that Arya is secretly dead on ‘Game of Thrones’
After spending what felt like hours wandering the streets, Arya Stark narrowly escapes being crushed by a crumbling building for what feels like the hundredth time. She emerges dirty and stunned to an eerily silent world of ash and rubble. The impression is that everyone and everything is dead.
Then, out of nowhere, a white horse appears. After the two exchange a poignant moment, Arya mounts the steed and rides off to hopefully plan an act of fitting revenge for her new enemy, the Mad Queen. But fans are questioning how she’ll be able to defeat Dany. They’re wondering how she managed to survive the siege when almost no one else did. Then there are skeptical fans who wonder if Arya actually died during the episode and no one knew it.
The horse looked way too familiar
Remember the horse leading the Golden Company at the beginning of the episode? Fans can’t help but notice that it looks practically identical to the horse who rides in to save the day at the end. But here’s the problem: we had just watched that horse die at the beginning of the episode.
As one fan said, “Yeah, I’m pretty sure Arya is dead too. She got all burnt up and a building fell on her. They made a point of showing us the death of the horse and the countless deaths of Arya. And yet they both rise from the ashes. If this isnt some lord of light shit, I’m gonna be pissed.”
Even if Arya is dead, it doesn’t mean she’s gone
Skeptics of the theory point out that Arya shows up in the preview for the final episode, which they say is proof she isn’t dead. But anyone who has been watching the show knows that death is only temporary sometimes. Just look at Jon Snow. And Beric. And The Mountain. Death is not a permanent end—sometimes it’s just the beginning.
Arya has become an integral part of the show and it’s all but guaranteed that we haven’t seen the last of her… even if she died in King’s Landing.
We can’t wait to see what happens next!
