Meghan Markle invited members of the fashion world to a rooftop garden in central London to celebrate the launch of her Smart Works clothing collection.

The Duchess of Sussex looked smart and sophisticated dressed in pieces from the new line, which she created in partnership with John Lewis, Marks & Spencer, Jigsaw and her friend Misha Nonoo.

During the event she chatted to journalists, fashion experts and women who have benefited from Smart Works’s incredible work and she gave a passionate speech about the new project.

Each lucky guest who attended was given a goodie bag to take home with them containing some very fancy things, believed to be worth about £100.

It contained a Bobbi Brown lip tint, a cleanser and a leather card wallet. There was also a reusable water bottle in the bag.

Security at the event was understandably very tight and all guests had to wear wristbands, reports Hello! magazine.

Meghan’s five-piece capsule collection for Smart Works, a charity that helps women get back to work, has already been a huge hit and the items have been flying of the shelves.

It features a bag, dress, smart white shirt and a suit – and for every item bought in the next two weeks, one will be donated to the charity, which Meghan is Patron of.

Meghan wore the trousers and shirt to Thursday’s official launch, teamed it with two very special items of jewellery which used to belong to her late mother-in-law Princess Diana.

She wore a pair of gold and diamond butterfly earrings that Diana used to love, and she wore them on a number of occasions including during her Royal Tour of Canada in 1986.

Meghan also had one of Diana’s bracelets on her wrist, along with a number of others, to complete the modern look.

The chunky gold bangle has blue stones on each side.

Launching the collection, Meghan said: ” Since moving to the UK, it has been deeply important to me to meet with communities and organisations on the ground doing meaningful work and to try to do whatever I can to help them amplify their impact.

“When you buy any item in the Smart Set Capsule Collection for Smart Works, the same item will be given to a Smart Works client, and with it, the confidence and support she needs to enter the workforce and take an important step in building a career.

“Thank you to the four brands who came together in supporting Smart Works on this special project – placing purpose over profit and community over competition.

“In convening several companies rather than one, we’ve demonstrated how we can work collectively to empower each other – another layer to this communal success story, that I am so proud to be a part of.”
