Greg James was given a ticking off by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge for ridiculing their daughter for shaking hands with her teacher on her first day at school.

BBC Radio 1’s Greg James has revealed he was scolded by Kate Middleton and Prince William for mocking Princess Charlotte.

The presenter said the future King and Queen were unfortunately tuned into his Breakfast Show when he ridiculed their daughter.

He had poked fun at Charlotte on her first day at Thomas’s Battersea school, reacting to snaps of her shaking hands with her teacher.

Greg questioned “who the hell shakes hands with their teacher” – not realising the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were tuned in.

And when Greg and Radio 1’s Teen Heroes had to go to Kensington Palace to meet the royals, the presenter received his ticking off.

Laughing about the moment he met Kate and William, he said on air: “They were listening on the morning Charlotte went to school.

“I saw the photo during the show and said, ‘Who the hell shakes hands with their teacher on the first day?”

He added: “They said: ‘We were listening on the morning of little Charlotte’s first day, and we want to talk to you about the handshaking thing…’

“I went: ‘Oh God, no!’

“They’d heard me saying this school was so posh they had to shake hands with their teacher every day.
