Meghan Markle is not your typical royal. The Duchess of Sussex truly has breathed new life into the royal family. From her passion for yoga and mental health to her dedication to healthy eating and consuming less meat, she’s certainly has transformed Prince Harry’s lifestyle. But, that is just the tip of the iceberg. Markle is famed for shirking traditional royal expectations in favor of doing what’s best for herself and her loved ones. A good example of this is the extended maternity leave that she took in order to bond with her newborn son, Archie. Recently, Markle once again bent the rules by breaking royal protocol in a big way.
The Daily Telegraphy
Just this week, Markle gave a one-on-one interview to a fairly popular British newspaper, The Daily Telegraph, where her thoughts about self-care and the power of vulnerability, especially amongst women were shared. Though the interview was of personal importance to Markle, it did require a breach of royal protocol. There is a set rule that members of the royal family shall never give one-on-one interviews with newspapers. For context, Prince William and Kate Middleton have never given one-on-one interviews. Neither has the Queen for that matter. Markle’s father-in-law, Prince Charles, has in the past, but only in rare circumstances.
But what exactly did this interview cover and why was Markle fine with breaking royal protocol for it? Markle recently visited Luminary Bakery, which is a bakery committed to helping underprivileged women pursue careers in the baking world with job opportunities and training. While Markle was there, and in conversation with some of the women who work there, she allowed Bryony Gordon to transcribe her thoughts and some of her conversations for The Daily Telegraph.
Bakery breeds. “One of the things I have realized since being here is that people have an expectation when I’m coming somewhere, so I’m like, let’s just be really relaxed, keep everyone nice and chilled, because at the end of the day we’re all just women. We all have a story to tell, and I feel honored that I am getting to hear yours,” the Duchess of Sussex shared.
Meghan Markle gets candid about healing
Markle then shared some personal thoughts about healing and how the Luminary Bakery fosters an environment for said healing. “I was talking about this with someone the other day. We get into this habit of wanting things done immediately nowadays. There’s a culture of instant gratification, of the instant fix. But we aren’t mechanical objects that need to be fixed. You’re a wounded creature that needs to be healed, and that takes time. And that’s what I love about this place. It gives you the support to heal,” Markle shared.
It’s wonderful that Markle took time out of her day to pay a visit to a bakery that advocates for such a great cause. She might have broken royal protocol, but we’d wager that this experience was a good reason to do so. It’ll be interesting to see how Markle continues to navigate her royal life in the future.
