Prince George appears to have inherited a passion for Prince William’s favourite football team as he was spotted attending his first Premier League match with his royal family.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were snapped in the stands of their local stadium on Saturday (local time), supporting Prince William’s favourite team, Birmingham-based Aston Villa, against Norwich City.

It is believed that Saturday marked six-year-old Prince George’s first football match. George, clad in his Aston Villa club T-shirt, was also accompanied by his younger sister Princess Charlotte, four.

Aston Villa Football Club took to Twitter to share the team’s excitement.

“You know how to pick your #AVFC games, Your Royal Highness,” the club tweeted after pictures of the royals surfaced online.

The young football fan looked excited to be there, punching the air, cheering and smiling as he celebrated the team’s triumphant 5-1 victory.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, both 37, are parents to George, Charlotte and 17-month-old Louis, who was absent from the family day out.

Sports broadcaster and former professional football footballer Gary Lineker tweeted: “Think Prince George has caught the football bug early.”

The Duke and Duchess shared a video of the occasion to their official Instagram, noting Aston Villa’s “fantastic performance”.

Prince William is the current president of the Football Association (FA) after taking over the role from his uncle, the Duke of York, in 2006.
