Now that they are no longer considered senior members of the royal family, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will be spending a lot more time away from the spotlight. Not only will they be taking on fewer responsibilities moving forward, but they are also planning on splitting their time between the U.K. and North America. While the couple will still be a part of the monarchy, there is one thing they won’t be able to do now that they are not senior members of the royal family.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are giving this up
Taking to Instagram, Harry and Meghan just announced that they no longer want to be a part of the senior group of royals. It is a bit murky as to who comprises this exclusive group, though it is generally accepted that the senior members of the royal family are those who hold top positions in the line of succession.
According to Town and Country, senior royals work full-time for the monarchy, representing Queen Elizabeth at various engagements, and acting as the face of the monarchy both at home and overseas. This group also includes spouses.
As sixth in line to the throne, Prince Harry was considered a senior member of the royal family prior to his recent announcement. Other members include Prince Philip, Prince Charles, Camilla Parker Bowles, Prince William, and Kate Middleton.
