Princess Beatrice and boyfriend Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi jetted off to Italy for a romantic break over the weekend.
The 31-year-old royal and the millionaire property developer, 35, looked ‘very much in love’ as they spent time together in the exclusive cliffside village of Positano, on the Amalfi Coast, on Sunday.
Beatrice – who has since left Italy and attended a conference in New York yesterday – looked beach-ready in a flirty white and navy ruffled sundress, sunglasses and a statement bag as she arrived for lunch with her handsome beau.
Ever the gentleman, Edoardo, known as ‘Edo’, was seen holding his girlfriend’s hand as he helped her off the boat – chartered by a company which offers private tours from €1,500 (£1,300) – and onto the pebble beach.
The couple were joined by friends who had chartered their own private boat to the beach, which is only accessible by sea.
An onlooker told how Edoardo, laid back in a light summer shirt, blue shorts and a panama hat, stripped down to his trunks for a dip in the sea while Beatrice stayed on the shore with the friends.
The couple enjoyed lunch at upmarket restaurant and beach club Da Adolfo, where lunch costs around €100 (£88).
‘They looked very much in love and happy,’ the onlooker said. ‘It would not be a shock to see theirs being the next royal wedding.
‘He went for a swim on his own and she stood on the side chatting with her friends. People didn’t make too much of a fuss of them, they were left alone largely.
‘They left together and he helped her on to the boat. They were very discreet and polite with everybody.’
The couple are thought to have left Italy on Sunday night or Monday.
Yesterday Beatrice was in New York to deliver a speech at the WICT Leadership Conference And Touchstones Luncheon.
The visit to Edoardo’s homeland comes amid fresh speculation that the couple are planning to marry as early as next spring and weeks after Beatrice’s mother Sarah, the Duchess of York, was spotted touring a romantic wedding venue in Tuscany.
Speaking last month, royal expert Ingrid Seward, editor of Majesty magazine told Hello! that the ‘couple are going to get married.
‘I was told by a member of the family,’ she said. ‘I think a wedding as early as next spring or summer is likely.’
Edo is the stepson of ex-PM David Cameron’s late friend, Christopher Shale, who died of natural causes at Glastonbury festival in 2011.
Edo’s grandfather was Gian Paolo Mapelli Mozzi, an Italian aristocrat with several connections to the British aristocracy.
He who passed on to his son and grandson the Italian title of Count.
