Queen Elizabeth II is a regular visitor to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s home Frogmore Cottage. The monarch’s move is seen as a bid to keep the Sussexes within the fold of the royal family.
According to Express, Her Majesty disagrees with some of the methods used by Sussexes in dealing with the media. However, the monarch remains steadfast in her support to the royal couple and is giving them counsel on how to approach the tricky media situation during her visits to the couple’s home.
There are also speculations that one of Queen Elizabeth II’s goals during these visits might be to try to keep the family intact. There have been long-running rumors of a rift between William and Harry, which the latter appeared to have indirectly acknowledged in the recent ITV documentary “Harry & Meghan: An African Journey.”
However, Her Majesty is, reportedly, doing her best to settle whatever disputes there might be within the family. “Experts claim Queen has intervened to try to ease tensions within the family,” wrote Daily Mail.
Harry and Meghan have decided to spend Christmas this year outside the royal family. The Sussexes will be spending the holiday season with Meghan’s mom Doria Ragland just as William and Kate will be joining her family during the same period.
“Having spent the last two Christmases at Sandringham, their Royal Highnesses will spend the holiday this year, as a new family, with the Duchess’s mother, Doria Ragland,” a spokeswoman for the Sussexes said.
The rep added that Harry and Meghan’s decision to spend Christmas away from the U.K. is approved by Her Majesty. “This decision is in line with precedent set previously by other members of the Royal Family, and has the support of the Queen,” she added.
Despite the assurance that it has Her Majesty’s seal of approval, there are speculations that the Sussexes’ decision to spend the Christmas holiday away from Sandringham might mean that all is not well within the family. Some observers also pointed out that they likewise opted not to spend their time with the Queen at Balmoral last summer.
However, a royal aide denied those speculations by saying that it’s about time for Harry and Meghan to spend some time with the latter’s family in the States “The duke and duchess see a lot of the Queen as they now live at Windsor,” the aide explained. “That’s why they didn’t go to Scotland this summer and why the Queen is supportive of their decision about Christmas.”
