Second Lifetime movie about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry
This isn’t the first time the network has made a film about the couple. Lifetime made Harry & Meghan: A Royal Romance in 2018, released just days before the real Markle and Prince Harry got married at St. George’s Chapel inside Windsor Castle.
The film followed “the meeting and courtship of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle” with actors Parisa Fitz-Henley and Murray Fraser playing the royal couple.
Well-received, the film now has a follow-up, Harry & Meghan: Becoming Royal, that Lifetime released just last month on May 27, 2019.
The sequel picks up where the first installment left off and follows “the continuing love story of newlyweds Prince Harry and American actress Meghan Markle during their first year of marriage,” according to the film’s IMDb description.
The one major difference with Harry & Meghan: Becoming Royal is that two different actors were cast to play the starring roles of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Tiffany Smith plays Markle while Charlie Field takes on the role of Prince Harry.
Why Thomas Markle is ‘incredibly disappointed’ by new Lifetime movie
Thomas Markle has been very vocal about his dislike of the newest Lifetime movie about his daughter’s life likely because his portrayal in the film is less than flattering. According to The Cut, Harry & Meghan: Becoming Royal “depicts Markle as a bumbling fool who upsets his daughter enough to get his invite revoked to the royal wedding.”
The publication also points out that in real life, Thomas Markle didn’t attend his daughter’s wedding because he underwent heart surgery just before the wedding unbeknownst to his the now Duchess of Sussex.
Recently, Thomas Markle shared his feelings with TMZ about the sequel. He told the publication how “incredibly disappointed” he felt in the new Lifetime movie, calling it “dumb fiction” the way the movie portrays his relationship with his daughter. He added that it “personally attacks” him.
To be fair, Thomas Markle has been attacking the British family for some time now. He staged photographs prior to Markle and Prince Harry’s wedding and ultimately didn’t attend the ceremony. Months after the wedding he claimed he never received an invite to the wedding.
No matter what the truth of the matter is, he’s definitely been sharing much more with the media than the royal family would probably like and is causing his daughter stress in the process.
We can only hope that Thomas Markle (and the rest of the Markle family) will make amends. He released a heartfelt letter she wrote to him begging him to stop talking to the press. “Your actions have broken my heart into a million pieces,” Markle wrote to her father.
Prince Harry (Thomas Markle reportedly called the now Duke of Sussex “arrogant” and in another instance hung up on him) and the rest of the royal family so he can meet his new grandson, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, soon.
